From 23 February to 15 June Fondazione Biscozzi | Rimbaud ETS in Lecce will present the exposition "Sandro Chia. The two painters. Works on paper 1989-2017" curated by Lorenzo Madaro, in partnership with Galleria Mazzoli-Modena..

“I am so glad to present in Lecce these works of such a great artist who is internationally acclaimed, and able to arouse the attention of a local and foreign public thanks to his immediate and intense language” as we are told by Dominique Rimbaud, chairwoman of the Foundation. 

While the curator of the exposition tells us that “the 1980’s was crucial for the internationally renowned Italian art. I am sure that it is essential to probe this decade for its contribute in the field of the research and its capability of looking ahead in an expanding art world by redefining and deepening the roles of it. Sandro Chia has not only been one of the utter and brilliant protagonists of this season. He has been one of the first artists to know how to dialogue with the system of the American art by using his innovative painting charged of references to art history. This exposition is an homage to a part of his artistic production, to his works on paper, and to a rich and great season”.

Sandro Chia (Florence-1946) is one of the founders of Transavanguardia, a current launched by Achille Bonito Oliva from 1978 with the essay Three of four dry artists published by Galleria Mazzoli of Modena.
