Starting from 17 December 2024, for six months, the Israel Museum of Jerusalem will host the exhibition “Alma Mater” by Yuval Avital, the artist and composer of whom “Lucus” has been exhibited during the summer-autumn 2024 in Foundation.

The work symbolises a touching homage to the archetype of the “Great Mother”.

The installation lets the visitor immerse in a “forest” of loudspeakers, videos and lights, giving voice to women’s chants, prayers and whispers coming from the ethnographic archives all over the world. This site-specific exhibition, realised in dialogue with the curator Talia Amar, includes an element of unique historical value: a feminine prehistoric statuette from Birkaat Ram, which is considered the most ancient statuette in the world.

Alma Mater” - aside from being dedicated to the grandmothers of the artist, Dorit Persiada Bada Pony Avital and Ruthie Rovner - is also a tribute to the universal femininity, capable of transcending the time with love, strength and protection.

Yuval Avital states: “During these times of conflict and violence, I wish that this installation will become a space of healing, a refuge of maternal voices”.

It is an important event for all of us who sustain him from afar, to reflect on the universal power of the feminine roots and on the power of art as a megaphone to promote messages and values.
